A Chinese national has been arrested for allegedly hunting wildlife illegally in the Margalla Hills of the federal capital, according to the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB).

The man was taken into custody in the E-7 forest area of Islamabad for allegedly setting traps to hunt wild animals. Wildlife Department sources said he had hunted several animals, including a rare species of deer.

Sources further claimed that late at night, the suspect cut up a wild animal caught in a snare and packed it into a box.

After receiving information about traps in the area, the IWMB deployed a covert team and arrested the suspect red-handed at the scene. During the arrest, he allegedly resisted and injured a wildlife official by biting him.

Following the arrest, Wildlife Department officials handed him over to local police. A case was later registered at F-7 Police Station under the Nature Act 2024, and legal proceedings were initiated.

Earlier, on May 16, 2026, the IWMB raised concerns over the killing of wildlife through snares in protected areas of the capital. The board said it suspected the involvement of nearby residents as well as Chinese nationals living in the area.

The matter surfaced after a barking deer was found dead in a snare in the E-7 forest area, which falls within the Islamabad Nature Conservation, Wildlife, and Protected Areas.

Wildlife Department sources said a related case had already been registered at Kohsar Police Station on May 11 on the department’s complaint.

According to the first information report, the complaint concerns the illegal hunting and killing of wildlife in the E-7 forest area in violation of the Islamabad Nature Conservation and Wildlife Management Act 2024.
