The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Thursday rejected media reports that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had shared information on Iran’s nuclear program during his recent meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The MoFA spokesperson dismissed the claims as “baseless and speculative,” and added that no intelligence was exchanged during the May 29 meeting in Washington. He said discussions between the two sides focused on bilateral relations, regional developments, and efforts to promote peace.
Both leaders reviewed the situation in the Middle East and Gulf region, with emphasis on diplomatic engagement and conflict de-escalation. The spokesperson said the dialogue remained strictly within the scope of regional diplomacy.
The spokesperson denied reports suggesting that any sensitive information regarding Iran was conveyed to the US side, stating that such claims were “entirely unfounded” and appeared aimed at undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts.
The clarification comes after remarks attributed to former CIA analyst Larry Johnson who said that Dar had delivered a message about Iran’s strategic intentions to Rubio. The claims were also referenced during a US congressional hearing, where Secretary Rubio said he was not aware of any such communication.
The FO added that Pakistan remains committed to dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful engagement in addressing regional challenges.
