Field Marshal Asim Munir has directly told US President Donald Trump that the ongoing blockade was becoming a serious obstacle to US-Iran peace talks, and Trump responded that he would consider the advice, Reuters reported.

The development comes as the fragile US-Iran ceasefire faces renewed pressure following a maritime standoff in which the United States tried to seize an Iranian cargo vessel accused of attempting to breach a blockade.

The incident triggered sharp reactions from Tehran, which accused Washington of undermining diplomatic efforts and threatened to pull back from upcoming negotiations.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the United States was not showing seriousness in pursuing diplomacy and accused it of pushing unrealistic conditions. He said Iran would not accept deadlines or ultimatums and would not compromise on what it considers core national security interests.

Tensions escalated further after the US military said it intercepted an Iranian-flagged cargo ship heading toward Bandar Abbas after a six-hour standoff.

The Strait of Hormuz has also seen disrupted traffic due to restrictions imposed by both sides. Iran has alternated between lifting and reimposing its own controls on maritime movement in response to US violations.

Amid the choas, oil prices have jumped by more than 6 percent as investors fear the ceasefire could collapse.

Pakistan has been attempting to facilitate dialogue between Washington and Tehran, with the latest exchange between Asim Munir and Trump the main thing keeping talks alive.
