A well-known bakery in Islamabad’s Blue Area was reportedly raided by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), with the outlet also said to have been temporarily closed to the public.
The bakery in question is Tehzeeb, one of the capital’s most recognizable food brands, and news of the reported raid quickly spread on social media, where customers also began sharing pictures of receipts and tax charges.
The exact reason behind the reported action remains unclear, and no official explanation had emerged at the time of writing.
However, multiple social media posts claimed the raid may be linked to allegations that the bakery was charging 18 percent sales tax on bakery items, including payments made through cards.
If confirmed, that would raise serious tax compliance questions, as the applicable sales tax rate differs based on payment method. Under existing FBR rules, customers are charged a lower rate on digital payments and a higher rate on cash payments.
Images of receipts shared online appear to show customers being charged more tax than expected, though the authenticity and full context of those receipts could not be independently verified.
Tehzeeb Bakers Islamabad is illegally charging 18% sales tax on bakery items even on card payments. FBR rules 5% on digital payments and 15% on cash. This is outright tax evasion in the capital city! @FBR_official Take action. Customers deserve fair billing. #TehzeebBakers pic.twitter.com/h7fs4ROtlB

For now, the matter remains unclear, with no formal statement publicly available on the nature of the raid, the duration of the closure, or whether any tax violation has officially been established.
