Dubai Police have arrested four suspects after busting a gang accused of using a fake royal protocol scheme to steal rare oud worth AED 12 million.
According to details, a woman posing as a princess, along with seven accomplices, allegedly tricked an oud trader into handing over the high-value consignment before disappearing with it. The stolen oud, valued at over Rs. 910 million, was later recovered by police.
Dubai Police said the eight-member group convinced the trader that an important personality was interested in buying the rare oud. The trader was then invited to a luxurious palace, where an elaborate royal-style reception and security setup were allegedly arranged to make the deal appear genuine.
Investigators said the suspects quietly removed the valuable oud and replaced it with ordinary wood inside the bags before returning them to the trader.
The fraud came to light the next day when the trader tried to contact the buyers but found all phone numbers switched off. He then approached the police after realizing he had been deceived.
Police launched an immediate investigation and recovered the stolen oud within 12 hours of the complaint.
So far, four suspects have been arrested, while red notices have been issued for the remaining four fugitives, including the woman accused of posing as a princess.
