Hospitals across Punjab are preparing for a surge in patients suffering from stomach disorders, food poisoning, hypertension, and heart complications during Eid al-Adha as excessive meat consumption increases health risks.
Doctors in Lahore say hospitals receive a sharp rise in gastric and cardiac emergency cases every year after Eid prayers, when families consume large quantities of beef and mutton throughout the holiday.
Medical experts warned that overeating oily barbecue, fried liver, karahi, and spicy meat dishes can place severe pressure on the digestive system, especially for elderly people and patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
Senior physician Dr Amjad Mahmood said nonstop meat consumption combined with soft drinks and late-night gatherings often triggers acidity, abdominal pain, dehydration, and chest discomfort.
Nutrition consultant Dr Sara Khalid also warned that many people ignore hydration during Eid festivities, increasing the risk of dehydration and kidney stress in hot weather.
Hospitals have finalized emergency arrangements to handle the expected rush of patients during the Eid holidays, while doctors advised citizens to eat balanced meals, drink plenty of water, and avoid excessive fatty foods.
