Discord has completed its rollout of end-to-end encryption for voice and video calls.

The company said the protection now applies to all calls outside stage channels. Users do not need to turn on the feature manually, as the added security is enabled by default.

Discord said the update completes a year-long effort to bring end-to-end encryption to its calling features.

The change means private voice and video calls on the platform now have stronger protection, keeping conversations more secure between participants.

The move comes as major platforms continue to take different approaches to end-to-end encryption.

Many users and privacy advocates see end-to-end encryption as an important tool for protecting personal conversations. However, some companies have moved away from the feature this year.

Meta removed end-to-end encryption from Instagram direct messages, while TikTok said it would not offer the feature in direct messages.

Discord is moving in the opposite direction by keeping end-to-end encryption for calls.

Apple has also moved toward stronger messaging privacy by adding encryption for RCS messages, improving protection when iPhone and Android users communicate.

Discord’s update gives users stronger default privacy for voice and video calls, while stage channels remain outside the new encryption coverage.
