OpenAI launched a preview of new personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro users in the US on Friday, allowing them to connect bank accounts and ask questions about spending, investments, bills, and future planning.

The company has partnered with Plaid to manage account connections. Users can connect accounts from more than 12,000 banks, including Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One.

Once accounts are connected, ChatGPT shows a dashboard that covers portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions, upcoming payments, and other financial details.

Users can ask questions such as whether their recent spending has changed or how they can prepare to buy a house in their area within the next five years.

OpenAI said more than 200 million users already ask ChatGPT financial questions every month. The company also said GPT 5.5 is stronger at reasoning with context, which is important for personal finance questions.

Users can open the “Finances” option in the ChatGPT sidebar and select “Get started.”

They can also type “@Finances, connect my accounts” in a ChatGPT conversation. ChatGPT will then guide them through the Plaid linking process.

OpenAI said it also plans to add support for Intuit soon. That could allow users to analyze issues such as the tax impact of selling stock or the chances of credit card approval.

Users can remove connected accounts by going to Settings, then Apps, then Finances. After a service is disconnected, synced account data will be deleted from OpenAI’s systems within 30 days.

Users can also view and delete financial memories from the Finances page. OpenAI said ChatGPT cannot see full account numbers or make changes to connected financial accounts.

The launch comes one month after OpenAI acquired the team behind personal finance startup Hiro, which was backed by Ribbit, General Catalyst, and Restive.

OpenAI said Hiro’s finance expertise helped with the new product, though it did not say whether the full feature was built by that team.

The move also shows how AI companies are building specialized tools for sensitive areas such as finance, health, and personal data. OpenAI and Anthropic have already launched health-related tools, while Perplexity recently introduced a financial research product based on its Computer agent.

The personal finance tools are available on ChatGPT for web and iOS for Pro users. OpenAI said it plans to improve the product based on Pro user feedback before making it available to Plus users.
