Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has released its latest processing time data, and the July 15 update shows a mixed picture for applicants.
Citizenship certificate processing has worsened sharply, while several permanent residency and family sponsorship streams have improved.
The biggest delay appears in citizenship certificates, where processing time has climbed to 19 months.
IRCC said 17,500 more applicants entered the queue since the last reporting cycle, pushing the category into its third straight month of steep increases. Just three months ago, the timeline stood at only three months.
Citizenship grants moved in the opposite direction, improving to 12 months as the queue narrowed slightly. Parents and grandparents sponsorship outside Quebec posted the strongest family class improvement, falling to 30 months.
Several permanent residency streams also showed progress. The Canadian Experience Class dropped to six months, non-Express Entry provincial nominee processing fell to 12 months, and inland work permits continued their steady decline to 124 days.
IRCC calculates these timelines using real applicant outcomes and reports the period in which 80% of cases receive a decision.
Monthly categories such as citizenship, permanent residency and family sponsorship were last refreshed on July 7, while weekly temporary residence categories were updated on July 15.
For temporary residence, Pakistan-specific applicants saw mixed results. Visitor visa processing from outside Canada rose to 39 days, while study permits held at six weeks.
Super visa processing for Pakistan remained the slowest among the listed countries at 187 days, highlighting a major delay for family reunification applicants.
The update comes as IRCC continues to move through a cluster of Express Entry draws, including recent PNP and CEC rounds.
Officials also continue to warn applicants that incomplete documentation remains one of the most common reasons for refusal across categories.
Overall, the July figures show Canada’s immigration system easing in some economic and family streams, but citizenship certificate applicants are still facing growing frustration.
