The cable car service at Patriata has been temporarily suspended for around one and a half months after Austrian experts recommended a safety upgrade.
Officials said the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) took the decision to ensure the safety of tourists visiting the popular hill resort near Murree.
According to the TDCP Director General for the northern region, the cable car’s iron rope needs to be replaced after a detailed inspection by foreign experts. The experts recommended a complete replacement of the cable infrastructure as a precautionary measure.
Following the inspection, the tourism department has placed an order for a new cable rope from abroad. Officials said the replacement process is expected to take between one month and one and a half months due to import and installation requirements.
The Director General said passenger safety remains the top priority and the cable car service will resume once the upgrade work is completed.

However, the chairlift service at Patriata remains operational and continues to facilitate tourists visiting the area.
He added that several new tourism projects are also being introduced in Murree and nearby areas. These include a safari train at Kashmir Point, modern electric carts for visitors, a glass walkway bridge, two new chairlifts, a paragliding club, and a state-of-the-art tourist resort.
Officials said the projects are aimed at improving tourism infrastructure and providing better facilities to visitors in Murree and the surrounding tourist spots.
