Anthropic has launched Claude Opus 4.8, an updated version of its flagship AI model for users.
The release is not a major upgrade on the level of the still unreleased Claude Mythos, but it brings several improvements across coding, agentic tasks, and general professional work.
The launch comes as Anthropic’s valuation has reportedly reached $965 billion, compared with OpenAI’s March valuation of $852 billion. That makes Anthropic, at least for now, the most valuable AI startup.
Anthropic said Claude Opus 4.8 is a more effective collaborator and performs better across several benchmarks.
The company said early testers found the model more reliable and sharper in its judgment during agentic tasks. Anthropic also said Opus 4.8 is more honest, makes fewer unsupported claims about its work, and is less likely to ignore flaws in code it has written.
Anthropic said its Alignment team found that Opus 4.8 reached new highs on measures related to prosocial traits, including supporting user autonomy and acting in the user’s best interest.
The company also said the model showed substantially lower rates of misaligned behavior than Opus 4.7, including deception or cooperation with misuse. Anthropic said those results were similar to its best-aligned model, Claude Mythos Preview.
Anthropic is also adding new features alongside Claude Opus 4.8. Dynamic workflows are now available in Research preview, allowing Claude to run hundreds of parallel agents for larger tasks in Claude Code.
Users can also control how much effort Claude puts into a response. This gives them more control over how deeply the model thinks and how quickly it uses their rate limits.
Claude Opus 4.8 is available now, and pricing remains the same as Claude Opus 4.7.
Anthropic said it expects to launch a safeguarded version of Claude Mythos for all customers in the coming weeks.
