A 92-year-old woman in eastern China has gone viral after pulling off an escape that looked more like an action movie scene than a nursing home incident.
The elderly resident, who suffers from severe Alzheimer’s disease, climbed over a 2.15-meter-high metal gate and disappeared from the facility in just 24 seconds.
Security footage from a nursing home in Yantai showed the 1.6-meter-tall woman grabbing the bars, finding her footing, pulling herself up, and carefully swinging over the gate before landing safely on the other side.
According to the nursing home’s director, the woman spent much of her life working in mountain orchards and has always been physically active. Despite her age, she still enjoys exercising and climbing.
Staff members quickly launched a search operation after discovering she was missing. Employees and vehicles were dispatched immediately, and the woman was located unharmed near the facility about 25 minutes later before being safely returned.
The video quickly spread across social media. Some joked that she could outperform people decades younger, while others cautioned about the serious challenge of balancing personal freedom with safety for elderly patients living with dementia.
For nursing home staff, it was likely a stressful afternoon. For the internet, it was proof that some grandmas are still capable of surprising everyone.
