Two vessels collided near the limits of Karachi Port on Thursday due to alleged negligence by their captains, officials confirmed on Friday. Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the incident.

Officials said the collision involved MV Niwa and MV Papu and occurred outside the operational boundary of the port. No casualties or injuries were reported, and port operations continued without disruption.

Federal Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry stated that the accident took place on the night of May 28 and was caused by alleged negligence on the part of both vessel masters. He confirmed that a probe has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

He also praised port authorities for their swift response, noting that the affected cable-laying vessel was safely brought into the port with assistance from Karachi Port Trust tugboats.

The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) confirmed that maritime operations remained normal throughout the incident. KPT Chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed said the damaged vessel received necessary technical and operational support.

Officials reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and further details will be shared once the inquiry is completed.
